Malawi hires climate change experts

The Daily Times (Malawi): Government has hired environmental experts to help steer its climate change programme in a bid to contain adverse effects of climate change. Malawi is suffering the brunt of climate change with unusually high temperatures, delayed onset of rain season and flooding in most districts.

Speaking when he opened a five-day induction training for the experts in Liwonde on Monday, Deputy Director in the Department of Development Planning Ephraim Chilima said Malawi cannot stand still when all countries are implementing adaptation programmes to mitigate climate change damage.

"As you are aware that climate change is taking a centre stage in the overall global development agenda, different countries are mainstreaming and implementing various adaptation and mitigation measures to deal with climate change and Malawi is not an exception. In line with the above, the Department of Development Planning has engaged climate change project interns that have been deployed to various government institutions with an aim of strengthening national climate change initiatives," Chilima said....
