Minister praises fire fighting rangers in Australia

Media Newswire: [Australian] Climate Change and Sustainability Minister Kate Jones has praised the efforts of Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service for bringing a large fire on Fraser Island under control. Containment lines held in unfavourable southerly winds over the weekend, following a week long effort to contain the wildfire.

While the fire is not currently threatening life and property, QPWS crews are continuing to closely monitor the area. “Our rangers have done their best to keep this wildfire under control, and have so far kept the fire away from homes and people,” Ms Jones said.

…Ms Jones said the southern end of the island had been most affected. “Approximately 22,000 hectares of the southern end of island has been affected, including the area from Hook Point up to Dilli Village on the eastern side of the island, through to Buff Creek on the western side,” she said.

“There have been many road closures as a result, and everyone on Fraser Island should make themselves aware of what roads have been closed and which ones remain open.”…

I wonder if the Minister can tell us why her Rangers lit the fires in the 1st place? We all knew of the firebans in Qld, so why light the fires.? And to have 22,000 Hectares of pristine forest lost due to incompetence of her seemingly unskilled Rangers. The Hook Point area had a family of young dingoes there, so I am now wondering if they have been destroyed in the fires and all the wildlife that lives there too.
If the Govt had left the brumbies and other livestock on the Island all this under growth would have been controlled by them , as always been the practice under Foresty Dept.
The incompetence of these Rangers even extends to them shooting many dingoes under the excuse of alleged attacks when really it is just puppy play. The Rangers have no idea about dingo behaviour, well neither does the Minister when it comes to that.
Now she has the gall to approach the Press and praise her Rangers for fires they lit themselves.
