Malaria causes 38% of illness in Liberia

AllAfrica.com, via the Analyst (Monrovia, Liberia): An official of the government malaria control initiative has been highlighting the danger of malaria for mankind. Tolbert Nyenswah, Acting Program Manager of the Liberia's National Malaria Control Program (NACP) at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said 38% of all reported illness at various hospitals in the country is caused by malaria, a deadly disease. Besides placing percentage on illness caused by the disease, he also said it is the main cause of infant mortality amongst pregnant women in the country.

Mr. Nyenswah said the issue of malaria in Liberia is a serious, noting that it affects the lives of nearly all inhabitants of the state. At such, he said it needs the effort of every citizen and other nationals residing in the country to act, stressing that is a matter of must for those who have the capacity to help, to engage in the process now and without delay.

He hailed the efforts of the government and international organizations are applying in combating the disease, but noted that more needed to be done to curtail its continuity because it is growing at a high percentage.
