Covering Bali without adding carbon emissions

Andrew Revkin of the New York Times reports in his blog Dot Earth that he's covering Bali at a distance: ...But part of me is content to track developments by instant message and email and mobile phone. A week ago, the Times of London got a consultant to estimate the carbon dioxide emissions associated with the conference.

“Calculations suggest flying the 15,000 politicians, civil servants, green campaigners and television crews into Indonesia will generate the equivalent of 100,000 tons of extra CO2,” the story said. “That is similar to the entire annual emissions of the African state of Chad.”

I know more than a few people out there who are hoping that’s the extent of the hot air generated by the meeting and that something concrete comes of all of this.
