Chopper to drop aid to Fiji cyclone victims

ABC News (Australia): Fiji's National Disaster Management Office says emergency supplies of food and medicine are to be delivered by helicopter to those displaced by [Cyclone Daman] on Cikobia Island. The director, Joeli Rokovada, says an aerial survey of the island was carried out by government officials today.

He says homes in all four villages on the island have been extensively damaged along with food crops. Mr Rokovada says a further assessment will be undertaken tomorrow, when a helicopter lands on Cikobia.

"At the moment, we are not pretty certain of the actual nature and extent of damage," he said. "I think once we have the initial ground assessment by the team accompanying the chopper tomorrow then we should be in a better position to ascertain the type of damages and the relief and rehabilitation needs on the island."
