Weather Service raises chance of La Nina

Reuters: The U.S. National Weather Service in its latest update on Thursday predicted slightly increased chances that the La Nina phenomena would develop during the next couple of months.

Its Climate Prediction Center projected that neutral conditions should continue through August in the meantime. La Nina is an unusual cooling of Pacific Ocean surface temperatures, which can trigger widespread changes in weather around the world, leading to hurricanes and other tropical storms. A La Nina weather pattern occurs about every three to five years and often follows El Nino, a warming of the Pacific waters which can also wreck havoc on the weather.
