Climate changes cannot be stopped, but we can reduce their impact through concrete measures, says Serbian Minister

Michael Roberts in Balkans.com (Serbia): Minister of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic said yesterday that this Ministry is doing the analysis of the impact of climate changes on all sectors of the economy and society in order to determine the amount of funds that need to be set aside to mitigate their consequences.

Opening the ministerial conference “Climate Change Research with the Aim of Environmental Protection, Adaptation and Risk Reduction” in Sava Centre, Dulic said that this meeting is a chance for the scientific and expert public of the countries of the region to gather and discuss a common model for reducing the impact of climate changes.

He underlined that the region of the Western Balkans is one of the most vulnerable in the world and that climate changes can have immeasurable consequences to the economy, public health and the environment.

Climate changes cannot be stopped, but we can reduce their impact through concrete measures, the Minister said, adding that Serbia has prepared an inventory of emissions with the green house effect and all the necessary strategic documents in order to participate on equal footing in the negotiations on climate change.

…Director of the Serbian Hydrometeorological Institute Milan Dacic said that the mitigation of impact of climate change is a very important subject for the UN and that the region of Southeast Europe must respond to the question of how much it is able to adapt to these changes and how much this adaptation costs…
