Rains bring flooding in Oak Forest

Kristyn Hartman in CBS News: A day of rain meant a lot of worry for some homeowners in Oak Forest on Monday. They watched the nearby creek and held their breath – hoping it didn't spill over its banks. But it did, again. As CBS 2's Kristyn Hartman learned, they don't think Mother Nature's entirely to blame.

By late afternoon, 154th and Kilpatrick was drying out. But earlier in the day, if you wanted to swim, you didn't need a pool. Lawns were lakes, thanks to the swelling Midlothian Creek.

Resident Glen Killeen was frustrated. "This is happening way too often," he said. In his back yard, a shed took on water, damaging lawn mowers and power tools.

"Every time someone spits we have a flood," Michele Killeen said. She said it didn't used to be that way. She'd take pictures of flooding every once in a while. Now, according to her and her husband, the creek is causing trouble five or six times a year. "I can take a once-a-year flood," Michele Killeen said. "We live here. That's the price we pay, but it's over and over again, you know."…
