Philippine mayors commit to climate change
Mai Gevera in the Philippines Information Agency: Municipal mayors in the Philippines expressed commitment in developing resilience and adaptive capacities of their people to the adverse impacts of climate change using precautionary approach.
After a series of lectures and sharing of good practices on risk reduction in the recently held LGU Summit at the Grand Regal Hotel,Davao City, the 700 participating chief executives found the importance of integrating climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction efforts in their respective development plans.
Included in the resolutions presented to President Benigno Aquino III is their commitment to enjoin all government units to activate their respective climate change councils, and intensify monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
One way of supporting these commitments is to intensify their information, education, and communication advocacy of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation….
