Training for disaster in the Solomon Islands

Solomon Times Online (Solomon Islands): The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) says its 10 Provincial Disaster Coordinators will be among 90 participants who will take part in a one-week Climate Change Workshop in Gizo from the 16th to 21st June. Acting Climate Change Officer Douglas Yee of the Ministry of Environment says their inclusion is important because they will be working in all provinces after the workshop to support their provincial governments on issues relating to sea level rise.

The Acting director of Climate Change says the workshop in Gizo will focus on Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment. He says the workshop aims to provide a forum for participants to share knowledge, experience and difficulties in preparing vulnerability and adaptation assessments and should also brief participants on vulnerability and assessment, introduce frameworks, approaches and data sources for conducting vulnerability and assessment as well as provide on-site hands-on training opportunity for a range of assessment tools….
