Wave action could eat more Australian coast
ABC News (Australia): Australia may lose more of its coast as a result of climate change than anyone thinks because of the effect of wind-driven waves, according to new research. A study by Dr Ian Goodwin, a palaeoclimatologist from the University of Newcastle, looked at how the changing direction and height of waves might affect coastal erosion.
His findings, which were presented at the recent Greenhouse 2007 conference in Sydney, suggest that in one scenario, storm surges might erode beaches on Australia's east coast by as much as 100 metres over 100 years. This is in addition to land loss due to climate-change related sea level rises...
