Mr Gormley defended the Irish Government’s decision to provide this funding when Ireland is being forced to seek a bailout from the EU and IMF. He said, “It goes without saying that Ireland is facing severe economic difficulties, which are impacting on the lives of our people. But we also have to remember that climate change is threatening the lives and safety of many through drought, flooding, lower agricultural productivity and more frequent and severe heat waves and storms."
