Philippine environment agency gears for adaptation
RG Alama for the Philippine Information Agency: Instead of fighting climate change, The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is keen on championing programs that adapt to climate change. According to DENR region XI Regional Executive Director Jim Sampulna, the Department's together with its line agencies' program is aimed at arresting global warming through climate change adaptations.
Dir. Sampulna, during his guesting at Kapihan sa PIA media forum held last Dec. 11, bared current DENR priorities which included geohazard mapping, hydronomic resiliency assessment mitigating and sustainability measures, framework of displaced communities, media information and knowledge sharing and watershed conservation and management. He also said that local government will have a greater role in these programs as there is a mandate that all projects of the DENR or before going to the field to implements said programs, they would have to first coordinate with local government units….
