"The American Denial of Global Warming"

Just watched the Naomi Oreskes lecture about climate change denialism. You should too. In the first half of her talk, she briskly narrates the history of how the science of global warming evolved. Then she turns to denialism, and the role played by the George C. Marshall Institute in spreading misinformation about climate. She also shows that bad faith distortions and unscrupulous tactics fostered by the tobacco industry in its attempts to discredit the scientific connection between smoking and disease were also put to use in the climate change debate --often by the same people! Her analysis of how the propagandists' "free market fundamentalism" prompts them to attack on any front where government regulation of markets might take place.
