Flashfloods disrupt Lagos
Stan Okenwa, Anthony Omoh Charles Okoh and Lorita Chigbo in AllAfrica.com, via the Daily Champion (Nigeria): Lagos State was yesterday rocked by flashfloods which paralysed business activities in different parts of the metropolis. Daily Champion recalls that the state government has been praising itself of taming floods in the state with billions of naira.
Yesterday's downpour which started about 8 a.m submerged seven vehicles at Kola bus stop, Ijaiye-Ifako area of the state. Ever busy Ahmadu Bello Way and other parts of Victoria Island, the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway were not spared of floods. In fact, the flood exposed the level of work of Borini Prono construction company in fixing the failed position of Mile 2 leading to Apapa wharf.
Apart from the gridlock in front of the Ibru yard Jetty complex on Apapa end of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, accessing Mile-2 from Badagry Expressway was difficult throughout yesterday. Our correspondent who visited the axis observed that efforts of some motorists to cut off traffic jam at Mile-2 to burst into Festac Link road were quite herculean, just as the on-going road construction work by CCECC in the area compounded flood menace….
