Sierra Leone bans timber exports

According to Reuters, Sierra Leone is banning timber exports to protect their remaining forests from Chinese and other markets. Will more developing countries try this? I haven't heard of any comparable step recently, opting out of the global economy for a spell by cutting a major hot export. And of course, on the neoliberal model, such a step is an occasion for must tsk-tsking. But perhaps it makes sense.
